Anghiari: a holiday of pure relax

The ancient fortified village of Anghiari was the theatre of a famous battle between the Florentines allied of the Holy Sea and the Milan forces. The latter were defeated, and its result was a gradual reduction of the Milan ambition in Tuscany.

This battle was represented by Leonardo da Vinci: although the original painting has been lost, various copies have been made throughout the centuries, and one of them, by Rubens, is exposed at the Louvre Museum in Paris.

Today the village is a flourishing centre, not only famous for its beauty and special position overlooking the valleys, but also for the interesting cultural events which are held here, such as: “Tovaglia a Quadri”, an event of “poor theatre and cuisine” quoted by the Tuscany region, the “Cyborg Film Festival”, a science fiction short film festival, the “Premio Anghiari – Parole, Colori, Suoni diversi”.

The “Libera Università dell’autobiografia” has its seat at Anghiari.

Since 1998 Anghiari has been the only tuscan town to be twinned with an argentine town: La Plata.
